What an Epidural Steroid Injection Treats
Epidural steroid injections are commonly used to treat pain that starts in the spine and radiates into the arms (cervical radiculopathy) or legs (sciatica).
Common Conditions
Herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and nerve root inflammation.
Goals of Treatment
Reduce inflammation around spinal nerve roots, relieve pain, and improve function to allow rehabilitation or daily activity.
What to Expect
The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting and typically takes only a short time.
During the Procedure
You will be positioned comfortably on your stomach in our pain suite. The medication is injected into the epidural space around your affected spinal nerve root using X-ray guidance.
After the Procedure
You can expect to go home the same day after a short recovery period. If sedation was used during the injection, you will need someone else to drive you home.
